Some of us down here in Visalia are confused too. Nobody wants to claim us! We're too north for SoCal, we're too south for NorCal. We've tried CenCal in the past, but there just isn't enough support.
We're excited to have found a home with NorCal this year. I know it's far to drive, but we try to make it worth it. We're hoping that once you come down here and play, you'll forget how long it took you to get here.

That's cool, looks like a great turnout for this event. I'll be in L.A. anyhow so I'm not able to play it... but Drunken Masters is the week after! woop!

We had a few technical problems... running a tournament out of my area is a new challenge for me...but mostly everything went well...
I have noted that several would like the NorCal Series Championships next year to be in Grass Valley/Penn Valley... along with a couple of votes for San Francisco... anyone else wanting to volunteer their club/course…send them on over!

I would doubt that SF would work since they haven't had a pro tourney there for years.

Will there be an official ballot for voting on this matter?
Looking back it has never been held up here in the past! It's about time! :-D
The following is where they were held over the years. (Monterey TWICE?)

2008: Auburn, Rocklin, Orangevale
2007: Oroville
2006: Ukiah
2005: Valley Springs
2004: Monterey
2003: Stockton
2002: Browns Valley (How Sweet Was That!)

I remember that part of the decision about where to host the Championships was to highlight a new course and/or in a new DG area. Well to add to GV's PV/GV idea, how about including the new course at Hammond Grove, add a temp back nine out to the river, and motovate the marysville/yuba city golfers to get out there and work that course a bit. Just a thought...

That would be awesome if we had the room.. we could prob make some temp holes.. if they gave us permission to use the land. My buddy Brian Long and I have been working at Hammon Grove a lot recently with Dale the park ranger there. We are just trying to keep the fairways cleared out and the poison oak contained.. which is a whole 'nother job in itself. we desperately need a work party out there to get the fairways cleared out and looking nice. The county of Yuba doesn't allow us to work on the land ourselves so we basically have to do it while Dale turns his head. We've been out there with gas weedeaters a few times working on the fairways.. we are in works with my buddies at Home Depot to get some weed killer to get the unwanted foliage out of there.. and of course the poison oak. But there's only a few different groups that regularly hit the course and without more foot traffic or motivated people... the course gets overgrown quickly. I am very thankful to have the course so close to home, but in order to run a tournament here, a lot of work is going to have to be done. we talked about running some weekly doubles there just to get the word out about the place. The 9holes are really nice, a couple more pin placements for each hole would be wonderful.. but like Chip said.. another 9 would do this place wonders! Too bad Browns n Bows isn't a NorCal Series Tournament.. because that place would be awesome to have NorCal Champs @!

B&B might be available, you should contact Mark and make it happen, he'd probably welcome the business. People would help you and be happy to attend and play golf there, it's more beautiful than ever.
BTW...B&Bs is Open the 3rd w/e of the month for those of you who might not know. $30 for camping, $15 daily rate. There is an email list that gets updates on open play dates
Perhaps a Hammond Grove page is in order on this forum!? Good to hear some work can/is being done...9 more holes (even temps) there, what's the possibility... I heard Bruce was in on that installation, any truth to that?

i have a question. is it me or have the players packages become pretty lame. i remember when we used to get a cool shirt and a disc in every one. now we're lucky to get even a shirt and its usually some god awful color that no-one would wear anyway.

I've noticed the same thing with a few of the tournaments... I have to say that the Tahoe Pro/Am had theeee weakest players package I've ever seen. C'mon! a towel and that's it! and the year before... a white shirt with a circle on it that says tahoe pro/am. WOW.

t is up to the TD on how they want to approach this, the minimum value for PDGA tournaments is there as a guideline, however each region of the world/america/state has their "retail value" on the merchandise making packages bigger or smaller. If the TD wants to wow their players, they work harder to get more, some just apply high retail values to their merchandise in the packages to get away with giving less... California has a "higher" "retail value" placed on merch, making it "easier" to pass the minimum value placed by the PDGA... Not to place any insult but rather an observation, the PDGA sanctioned touraments I played in California in the past year all had smaller packages than the ones I played in other states....
For a B tier, Am package has to be a minimum of $10 value retail. You could say that the TD is applying a super high retail on that towel and shirt?

The Tahoe tournaments I've seen have had the most gracious payouts I've seen since moving west. Maybe that's why there's weaker player's packs. I'd take that any day.
Anyway, Ron, gotta bone to pick here. You complain about the ~180 miles it is from Sac to Monterey. Okay, that's a haul, granted. I'll trade with you. Here, your nearest COURSE (not tourney) to the east is in Salt Lake City UT (520 miles), the nearest one to the North is Klamath Falls OR (250+ miles). True, I've got a handful of courses to the west and south, and they're YOUR courses.
Just keeping things into perspective. Your state is just too big.
In NE, I could hit an 7 state radius without driving more than 3 hours (DE, PA, NY, NJ, MA, CT, RI.) So I suppose the answer is to move to NJ.
again.

Derek, your in the boonies!! But you are blessed with Tahoe golf at least. You could always just move to Grass Valley, there's a ton of courses in the same mile radius your speaking of... many of which you may have not played yet. Browns n Bows? Toneys Mountain? I even was told by Chip there's a new course up at Black Butte Lake I believe it's called outside of Chico. I am planning a trip out there sometime soon! I'd love to check it out.. 18 disc catchers... yellow rim of "DOINK"!

I'm pretty sure this is the thread the conversation came from, but have we made up a ballot or talked to any TD's about where the NorCal Champs is going to be?
Jenny,
Is there anything Grass Valley needs to do to bring it here... were you able to get ahold of Travers? Haven't seen anything on the Facebook page either...
